Which Internet Plans Are Best for Residents Switching in Spain?
Three resident situations from the research behind this page, re-ranked on the prices we confirmed on provider pages on 25 October 2026. Where the research's pick could not be confirmed, we say so.
Settled household: lowest stable cost
No verified answer
The research picked Adamo 600 Mb for this case. That plan was not re-checked in October 2026, so we cannot confirm it.
On confirmed prices, the cheapest plan with the same price from month one at any covered address is Finetwork Fibra 600 Mb. If your address is on an own network, DIGI Fibra SMART 500 Mb costs EUR 10 with a 3-month commitment.

How Do You Switch Internet Providers in Spain?
You do not need to cancel your old service before signing with a new provider. Confirm coverage at your exact address first, then let the new provider schedule the technical switch-over.
1. Check your current contract for a permanencia clause
Look for a minimum term and any installation or exit charge if you leave early.
2. Compare after-offer prices at your address
Compare what you pay now with the price each plan costs once its introductory offer ends, and check which plans actually reach your address.
3. Call your current provider for a retention offer
Quote a competing plan's after-offer price.
4. If switching, sign with the new provider first
Read the pre-contract summary: after-offer price, term, installation, router return. The new provider usually schedules any technician visit.
5. Confirm the old contract is closed and the final bill is settled
Check the final invoice for pro-rated charges, and return any router that was on loan.
How Do Permanencia Contract Clauses Work in Spain?
A permanencia is a minimum term: leave earlier and you pay a charge, often the installation that was "free". It is separate from the price: a plan with no minimum term can still rise when its offer ends, as Movistar Fibra 1 Gb does.
- No minimum term: Movistar, O2, Pepephone (8 plans).
- 3 months: Digi.
- 12 months: Orange, Adamo. Orange charges the installation (EUR 242 with IVA) if you leave within 12 months; leaving Adamo early costs up to EUR 163.35.
- Not confirmed in October 2026: Lowi, Finetwork, Vodafone. Ask before signing.
Ley 11/2022 caps a permanencia at 24 months and the cancellation notice at one month, and it voids the penalty if the operator raises your price unilaterally and you decline the increase. Always check your own contract.

What Should Residents Know Before Switching Internet Providers?
- Set a calendar reminder for the month your introductory price ends, so you can call for a retention offer before the higher price starts.
- Own-network prices apply street by street: check your exact address on the Ministry's coverage map and the provider's checker before counting on them.
- Ask your current provider whether your plan carries a permanencia and what leaving early costs; do not assume.
- Check our user review comparison before switching purely on price.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I am overpaying for internet in Spain?
Compare what you pay now with the after-offer prices on this page, not with introductory prices. As of October 2026, Finetwork Fibra 600 Mb costs EUR 19.99 a month from month one at any covered address, and Finetwork Fibra 1 Gb costs EUR 24.99. If you pay more than that for a similar speed, call your provider for a retention offer or switch.
Can I switch internet providers in Spain without a penalty?
It depends on your contract. As of October 2026, Movistar, O2, Pepephone sell fiber with no minimum term; Orange and Adamo ask for 12 months and charge installation or an exit fee if you leave earlier; Digi asks for 3 months. Ley 11/2022 caps a permanencia at 24 months and the cancellation notice at one month. Check your own contract for the exact figure before switching.
Does switching internet providers in Spain keep my existing wiring?
Sometimes. Several brands sell fiber over another company's network: O2, for example, uses Telefonica's fiber network. Whether a new provider can reuse your line depends on the address, so ask during the coverage check. A technician visit is usually still needed to set up the line for the new provider.
Is it worth switching from Movistar to DIGI to save money?
On price, often yes. Movistar Fibra 1 Gb costs EUR 45 a month, EUR 29.90 for the first 12 months, while DIGI Fibra 1 Gb costs EUR 30 a month outside DIGI's own network with a 3-month commitment (October 2026). Where your address is on DIGI's own network, DIGI Fibra SMART 500 Mb costs EUR 10. Movistar's current fiber plans have no minimum term, so check whether yours does before you leave.
