Updated October 2026. Every Spanish mobile brand runs on one of three physical networks, Movistar, Vodafone Espana and Orange (MasOrange), or on Digi's own antennas backed by Movistar. Yoigo no longer has its own: the research reports its radio network was switched off in August 2025. On Opensignal's measurements, as summarised by secondary sources, Movistar is the most-awarded network and the strongest in rural Spain, and Digi has the fastest measured 5G (260.4 Mbps median, a thin-sample effect). Movistar wins overall and in rural Spain, Orange ties it on network availability, Vodafone is fastest on 5G among the big three, and Digi posts the fastest measured 5G on a thin sample. The figures come from Opensignal's Spain report of February 2025 (tests October to December 2024), as summarised by esim-now (October 2026) and Roams (July 2026), plus CNMC 5G coverage, as collected by the research. The brand on your SIM rarely owns the network. The research reports that Yoigo's own radio network was switched off in August 2025, so Yoigo, Pepephone, MasMovil, Hits and Jazztel now all run on the Orange (MasOrange)network, and reviews of "Yoigo coverage" written before 2026 describe a network that no longer exists. All the networks cover Spain's major cities, so the differences that matter most show up outside them. On the research's network table, Movistar is best in the interior, Extremadura, the Pyrenees and island interiors; Orange is strong on the coast, in the highlands and on the islands; Vodafone is weakest in deep-rural areas; and Digi equals Movistar in practice because it rides the Movistar footprint.

The research explains it by Digi's thin customer base riding uncongested Movistar spectrum, and narrows the claim: it is a thin-sample effect, Ookla crowns Movistar overall, and Digi has the lowest 5G time connected (16.8%). Among the big three, Vodafone measured fastest on 5G at 122.9 Mbps.
On reach, the CNMC puts Movistar's 5G at about 92% of the population, Orange over 90% and Vodafone about 90%. By municipality, the CNMC's April 2026 rural-quality report found 96% of urban municipalities have at least one 5G network versus 82.2% of rural municipalities, and only 15.4% of rural municipalities have three competing 5G networks versus 49.7% in cities (source: CNMC).
For most residents, 4G coverage matters more day-to-day than 5G, since 4G speeds already comfortably support streaming and video calls across the covered area.
