Comparing unlimited data with unlimited data, Orange Holiday Mini (EUR 25 for 15 days) is cheaper than Holafly from day 8, as of October 2026; up to 7 days, Holafly is cheaper at EUR 22.90. A capped local line is cheaper from day 1: Digi 25 GB costs EUR 5 a month and Vodafone Prepago S EUR 10 every 28 days for 90 GB. Over 3 months, Holafly costs EUR 185.70 against EUR 40 for Vodafone Prepago S. A travel eSIM has no phone number, so it cannot receive Spanish bank, Cl@ve or Seguridad Social SMS codes.

When Does a Local SIM Get Cheaper Than a Travel eSIM?

The table prices each stay at the shortest plan that covers it, the same method as our eSIM price research. Holafly and Orange Holiday have unlimited data; the two local lines have a data cap. All four prices were confirmed on the provider's page on 2026-10-26.

Prices as of October 2026. Holafly: unlimited data, no phone number. Orange Holiday: unlimited data, 100 minutes and a phone number. Vodafone Prepago S: 90 GB, EUR 10 every 28 days. Digi 25 GB: 25 GB, EUR 5 a month. Local lines are counted as one payment per started billing cycle.

The crossover, unlimited against unlimited: up to 7 days Holafly costs EUR 22.90 against EUR 25 for Orange Holiday Mini. From day 8, Holafly needs its 10-day plan at EUR 30.90, so Orange is EUR 5.90 cheaper (EUR 30.90 - EUR 25). At 4 weeks the gap is EUR 26.90 (EUR 61.90 - EUR 35).

Against a capped local line, there is no crossover: Digi 25 GB (EUR 5) and Vodafone Prepago S (EUR 10) both cost less than Holafly's shortest plan (EUR 11.42 for 3 days). What a travel eSIM buys is convenience: it is installed online before you land, with no ID check and no shop visit. Staying a year, Vodafone Prepago S costs EUR 130 (13 payments every 28 days) and Digi 25 GB EUR 60 (12 months).

Method: Holafly's six durations on its Spanish page (3 to 30 days); a stay longer than 30 days repeats the 30-day plan. How an operator bills a first part-month was not confirmed. Airalo and Ubigi are left out because their prices were not re-confirmed in October 2026.

Can a Travel eSIM Receive Spanish Bank SMS Codes?

No. Mainstream travel eSIMs such as Holafly, Airalo, Saily, Nomad and Ubigi are data-only: they have no phone number, so they cannot receive the one-time SMS codes that Spanish banks, Cl@ve and the Seguridad Social send. If you will open a bank account or use a government portal, you need a line with a number from the start, whatever your data needs.

Lines that do have a number: any Spanish operator SIM or native eSIM, and Orange Holiday, which includes a phone number with its unlimited data. The research also reports one partial exception among travel eSIMs, per a secondary source: Holafly's monthly subscription adds an inbound-SMS number that is not Spanish, and the research warns that Spanish services may reject foreign numbers. For Cl@ve and the digital certificate, see Spanish digital certificate.

Which Prepaid Line Has a Phone Number and Unlimited Data?

The research reports Orange Holiday as the only Spanish-operator prepaid product that combines a phone number with unlimited data (research confidence B). Its two packs, as of October 2026:

Orange Holiday MiniEUR 2515 daysEUR 1.67Unlimited data, 100 minutes, a phone number
Orange Holiday MaxiEUR 3528 daysEUR 1.25Unlimited data, 100 minutes, a phone number

For 8 to 28 days it is the cheapest confirmed unlimited option (see the table above). If a data cap is fine, Vodafone Prepago S gives 90 GB and a number at EUR 10 every 28 days, EUR 15 less than Holiday Mini.

How Do a Travel eSIM, a Native eSIM and a Physical SIM Compare?

A native eSIM from a Spanish operator costs the same as that operator's physical SIM and comes with a number. A travel eSIM is faster to get but data-only.

Research section 7.4, prices replaced with the confirmed ones (October 2026). Orange's EUR 15 eSIM fee is from press reports of September 2025 (research confidence B).

Frequently Asked Questions

When does a local SIM become cheaper than a travel eSIM in Spain?

Unlimited against unlimited, Orange Holiday Mini (EUR 25 for 15 days) is cheaper than Holafly from day 8, when Holafly needs its 10-day plan at EUR 30.90; up to 7 days Holafly costs EUR 22.90. A capped local line is cheaper from day 1: Digi 25 GB costs EUR 5 a month and Vodafone Prepago S EUR 10 every 28 days, against EUR 11.42 for Holafly's 3-day plan (prices as of October 2026).

Do travel eSIMs work for Spanish bank SMS codes?

No. A data-only travel eSIM has no phone number, so it cannot receive the one-time SMS codes that Spanish banks, Cl@ve and the Seguridad Social send. You need a line with a number: a Spanish prepaid SIM or eSIM, or Orange Holiday.

Is Orange Holiday worth it?

For 8 to 28 days with unlimited data, yes on price: Holiday Mini costs EUR 25 for 15 days and Holiday Maxi EUR 35 for 28 days, against EUR 42.50 and EUR 61.90 for Holafly's 15 and 30-day plans. It also includes 100 minutes and a phone number. If you can live with a data cap, Vodafone Prepago S at EUR 10 every 28 days for 90 GB costs less.

Which eSIM includes a phone number in Spain?

Every native eSIM from a Spanish operator comes with a phone number, at the same price as the operator's physical SIM (for example Digi 25 GB, EUR 5 a month). Among short-stay products, the research reports Orange Holiday as the only operator prepaid line with a number and unlimited data.
